Massive Aviation Project Advances Toward Year-End Launch
According to reports from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, construction of the passenger terminal at Long Thanh International Airport reached nearly 70 percent of its total contract value by August 2026, while civil works alone achieved nearly 80 percent completion as contractors race to meet scheduled operational targets.
The reinforced concrete structure, incorporating the basement and four above-ground floors alongside the steel roof framework, is fully finished, prompting construction teams to aggressively shift their focus toward installing the skylight roof, finishing interior spaces, and executing extensive landscaping ahead of the September completion goal.
Citing reports detailing the physical milestones achieved on-site, the structural framework includes the foundational basement levels and elevated tiers, ensuring that the heavy engineering phase has successfully given way to specialized architectural detailing and critical systems integration across the massive facility.
"Contractors are now focusing on installing the skylight roof, completing interior works and landscaping, with the goal of substantially finishing the terminal by September," project representatives stated, underscoring the relentless pace maintained by engineering teams working on the national key infrastructure project.
Advanced Baggage and Security Systems Installation Underway
Terminal equipment installation, recognized as the most vital component for upcoming trial operations, is proceeding steadily with the baggage handling system, steel floor structures, and the ICS conveyor system already fully established by engineering contractors across the multi-level facility.
For the checked baggage screening infrastructure, 52 of the 53 planned units have arrived on-site, representing 98 percent of the total requirement, while 10 explosive detection system scanners are successfully connected to the second-floor conveyor network alongside 19 fully installed customs baggage scanners.
The carry-on baggage screening setup exhibits rapid progress as well, with 214 out of 257 planned units delivered to the location, accounting for 84 percent of the total inventory, allowing workers to install dozens of high-tech security machines simultaneously inside the passenger terminal.
According to official project updates, passenger boarding bridges have also been largely finished, with technicians actively performing intricate electrical connections, control system integration, and rigorous functional trial runs to guarantee absolute reliability before commercial flights commence.
Essential Infrastructure and Runway Progress Support Hub Goals
Component Project 3, which encompasses all essential aviation facilities, has attained nearly 80 percent of its signed contract value, with major construction packages consistently reaching approximately 70 percent completion across the expansive development zone in southern Vietnam.
Key transport infrastructure, including airport connecting roads, the primary runway, taxiways, and aircraft aprons, is largely finished, while concrete paving works for the secondary runway are also complete ahead of upcoming equipment installation phases and fuel supply system finalization.
Three distinct rounds of trial operations are officially scheduled between September and November 2026, during which relevant regulatory agencies will coordinate rigorous safety inspections, equipment calibration, and mandatory certification procedures to satisfy all operational requirements.
As a national key infrastructure initiative, Long Thanh International Airport is projected to function as a premier aviation hub that effectively eases severe congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport while significantly strengthening the southeast region's standing on the global aviation map.
