Recent findings from Tata Communications and Bloomberg Media Studios reveal that most enterprise leaders lack the necessary infrastructure to scale artificial intelligence.

Enterprise AI ambitions stall over inadequate digital infrastructure

According to a recent report by Tata Communications and Bloomberg Media Studios, global businesses face a major hurdle as 77 per cent of enterprise leaders prioritize artificial intelligence while only 29 per cent possess infrastructure capable of supporting it at scale. Companies worldwide are discovering that legacy systems, fragmented cloud platforms, and complex security tools hinder their ability to move AI initiatives past the initial pilot phase.

Mr. Amitabh Sarkar, Tata Communications' vice-president and head of Asia Pacific and Japan for enterprise, noted that infrastructure has shifted from a backend concern to a primary boardroom agenda. The core challenge stems from managing disjointed technology environments where data moves across multiple cloud systems, users, and applications without clear visibility or robust governance frameworks.

Citing reports on enterprise readiness, organizations frequently struggle with provisioning infrastructure, integrating legacy systems, and enforcing security policies efficiently. This friction directly creates a widening operational gap between basic AI experimentation and full industrialization across various market sectors.

"Infrastructure is no longer a backend concern. It"s now a CEO agenda,' Mr. Sarkar stated while emphasizing the critical need for unified digital frameworks to address these growing technological hurdles.

To bridge this readiness gap, Tata Communications introduced its Digital Fabric approach, creating a unified layer that connects networks, cloud environments, applications, security systems, and users into a single cohesive ecosystem. This resilient architecture helps mission-critical industries maintain more than 99.99 per cent service availability through software-defined platforms like IZO Data Centre Dynamic Connectivity.

The specialized platform links major data centres across five continents, utilizing deterministic multi-path routing to deliver predictable latency and automatic traffic rerouting during unexpected network disruptions. Self-healing capabilities allow the system to isolate affected segments and restore services rapidly with minimal manual intervention from IT staff.

Strategic partnerships further expand this digital framework to solve operational challenges in sectors where downtime is not an option, such as transportation, logistics, and smart manufacturing. A collaboration with Cisco integrates global eSIM orchestration with IoT control centers, allowing firms to manage connected devices seamlessly across private and public networks.

Additional partnerships with companies like Johnson Controls have delivered measurable energy savings of up to 12 per cent in Singapore and 10 per cent in London through autonomous building management.
