According to a comprehensive study released by internet and cloud exchange operator DE-CIX, enterprises across the United States and the United Kingdom are spending an average of 11.5 hours per week troubleshooting cloud connectivity issues stemming from surging artificial intelligence workloads, despite 96 percent of organizations expressing confidence in their underlying network readiness.

The research, conducted by Censuswide and drawing on insights from over 400 IT and infrastructure decision-makers, highlights a glaring oversight as global companies prepare to invest nearly 7 trillion dollars in data center infrastructure by the year 2030, with more than 40 percent of that massive capital allocation occurring directly within the US.

While private-sector investments continue to scale rapidly to meet surging computational demands, corporations frequently neglect the vital network architecture required to securely bridge users, multi-cloud environments, and heavy artificial intelligence applications without encountering disruptive operational bottlenecks.

Citing reports from industry analysts, the investigation underscores that failing to modernize underlying network foundations can derail expensive artificial intelligence deployments, turning what should be a seamless technological transition into an ongoing administrative headache for corporate IT departments.

Beyond basic troubleshooting delays, IT decision-makers surveyed in the DE-CIX study pointed to several critical network vulnerabilities, including persistent latency and slow performance cited by 28 percent of respondents, security concerns regarding DDoS attacks noted by 27 percent, and general downtime or reliability issues affecting 26 percent of organizations.

Additional operational hurdles involve escalating connectivity costs, a shortage of specialized staff expertise, and a lack of direct visibility and control over data flows across increasingly complex and sprawling multi-cloud architecture setups.

Based on reports from infrastructure experts, these persistent operational strains clearly demonstrate that traditional public internet routing is no longer sufficient to support the rigorous demands of modern, data-intensive artificial intelligence tools and automated enterprise workflows.

"Our research suggests that far too many enterprises are still spending valuable time trying to maintain that kind of connectivity, with more than a third spending between 11 and 20 hours per week," said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, emphasizing that network architecture ultimately dictates the success or failure of artificial intelligence adoption.

Current market data indicates that 61 percent of companies already utilize private cloud connectivity, while another 31 percent are actively exploring implementation, showcasing a stark divide where 71 percent of large enterprises with over 1,000 employees embrace the strategy compared to only 31 percent of medium-sized businesses.
